A compact first-time route through Sigiriya, Kandy, tea country and Bentota.
The experience
Best for first-time visitors with five days who care most about ancient sites and the hill country. This private route connects Dambulla, Sigiriya, Kandy and the tea estates before a final night on the Bentota coast, without adding a long wildlife detour.
Day by day
Day 1
Meet your private driver and travel towards Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle. Stop at Dambulla Cave Temple, where a dramatic rock complex protects centuries-old Buddhist statues and painted cave interiors. Continue to Sigiriya, check in and relax. If energy allows, add an optional village walk or Ayurvedic treatment before dinner.
Day 2
Climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress early, passing landscaped water gardens, ancient frescoes and the Mirror Wall before reaching the royal ruins and panoramic summit. Continue through Matale, optionally stopping at a spice garden, then visit Kandy's Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and a Kandyan cultural performance.
Day 3
Walk through the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, known for orchids, palms, giant bamboo and tropical collections. Drive into the tea-covered highlands, visit a working tea factory and plantation, then explore Nuwara Eliya and Gregory Lake.
Day 4
Descend from the cool mountains towards the southwest coast, stopping at waterfalls and viewpoints where time allows. Arrive in Bentota for a relaxed afternoon beside the sea, a beach walk and sunset.
Day 5
Enjoy a relaxed final morning. Depending on your flight time, add a short coastal stop before your private transfer to Colombo or Bandaranaike International Airport.
