An exceptionally long private day to the rock fortress and cave temple.
The experience
Best for energetic guests who cannot add an overnight stay in the Cultural Triangle. At roughly 14–16 hours, this is our longest excursion; it combines Sigiriya and Dambulla in one day, but we recommend a multi-day route for children or anyone who prefers a relaxed pace.
Your day
Stop 1
Leave Bentota early to maximize sightseeing time and avoid the strongest midday heat at Sigiriya.
Stop 2
Climb through the ancient water gardens and up the rock to the palace ruins. Along the route, see the frescoes, Mirror Wall and Lion's Paw terrace. The summit rewards the climb with wide views across jungle and lakes.
Stop 3
Take a restorative break near Sigiriya before continuing to Dambulla.
Stop 4
Climb to the cave complex and explore chambers filled with Buddha images, statues and historic wall paintings. The site has been used for Buddhist worship for centuries.
Stop 5
Relax in your private vehicle during the journey back to Bentota, with comfort stops as required.
