A private inland day trip focused on wild elephants and open-country wildlife.
The experience
Best for guests whose main priority is seeing elephants in the wild while remaining based on the southwest coast. The long private transfer is rewarded with an open-country jeep safari; all wildlife sightings remain natural and cannot be guaranteed.
Your day
Stop 1
Leave the coast early and travel towards Udawalawe through rural southern Sri Lanka.
Stop 2
Transfer into a safari jeep and enter the national park. Open grasslands and reservoir areas provide excellent visibility for wildlife.
Stop 3
Udawalawe is especially known for elephants. Guests may also encounter buffalo, crocodiles, deer, monkeys, eagles and other bird species; wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.
Stop 4
After the safari, stop for lunch before beginning the return drive.
Stop 5
Where opening schedules align, add a visit to learn about rehabilitation of orphaned young elephants before their release back into the wild, then return to Bentota in the evening.
